The western town of Westport is accessible via the N59 and N5. The latter road will take you straight to the heart of the town centre, where the test venue is located. We’ve picked out two nearby parking facilities below, but please be aware that there are numerous local car park sites available.
High Street Car Park
Located a short, two-minute walk from the test centre is High Street Car Park. This location is open 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, but only applies parking charges between the hours of 8.30am-6.30pm, Monday through to Saturday.
Parking is modestly priced at €0.60 per hour, with a maximum payment cap of €2 in operation. Therefore, if you’re planning to stay in Westport beyond your theory test, and require a parking space for over four hours, you’ll never pay more than €2. This facility accepts either cash or contactless payments. Disabled spaces are available.
To access the test site from here, please exit the car park and head onto Mill Street. Turn right, and walk eastbound until you arrive at the Market Lane junction. Turn left, and progress up Market Lane for around 50m. The venue will be straight ahead.
Mill Street Car Park
This facility presides over the same operational and chargeable hours as the High Street Car Park. However, parking here costs an additional €0.10 per hour, with a higher spend limit of €3. Again, cash or contactless payments are accepted, and disabled parking is accommodated here.
The site is located at the south end of Market Lane (just on the corner of Mill Street). Therefore, the venue is located less than a minute’s walk away. For reference, Mill Street Car Park resides in Unit 4; the test centre occupies Unit 9.

Given Westport’s relative remoteness, there are just two external bus services that head into the town. These are numbers 440 and 456.
- 440: This route originates in Athlone, and heads to Westport in a north-westerly direction. If using this service, please exit at Mill Street bus stop, which is incidentally where this bus will terminate. This stop is just around the corner from the testing venue, but on the opposite side of the Market Lane junction to the car parks mentioned earlier. Therefore, please head west on Mill Street for approximately 30m, before turning right onto Market Lane. Again, the centre is located at the end of this road.
- 456: The number 456 operates between Galway and Castlebar, heading north/south. Again, please alight at Mill Street bus stop.
Westport does have a small local transport network, so if you reside in or nearby to the town, it may be worth checking out these services. If an appropriate route is available, it’s worth aiming to arrive into Mill Street bus stop, given its closeness to the test site.
Westport Train Station is situated in the south-east of the town and is therefore a considerable distance from the test centre. The journey from station to venue is just short of one kilometre, so will take roughly twelve minutes to complete. There is clearly the option of travelling by foot, however, if you would prefer to navigate this route by bus, there is a service which directly passes the venue.
If walking, head north-west up Altamount Street, continuing for around 700m until you arrive at the roundabout. Go straight on, which will see you emerge on Fairgreen. Keep progressing west, as Fairgreen merges with Mill Street. Turn right at the Market Lane junction and advance until the end of the road.
Taking the bus will shave your travel time down by about five minutes. The number 423 Killaghoor service will take you from the train station bus stop all the way through to Mill Street. As this route heads directly passed the venue, you’ll need to turn 180° after exiting on Mill Street, and head back on yourself for a short period. Market Lane is only positioned around 50m from this specific bus stop, which is a different stop to that mentioned in the comments for the number 440 and 456. As per previous instructions, on arrival to Market Lane, head for the far end of the road to find Unit 9.
Westport’s train station sits on the transit line between Dublin and Ballina. If you’d like to check whether this service travels through your locality, then please visit the Irish Rail website for route information.
The venue is located in Unit 9 on Market Lane. Its operating hours are as follows:
- Monday-Friday: 9.00am-5.00pm
- Saturday: 9.00am-2.00pm
- This site is closed on a Sunday.
