Located in the northwest of the country, close to the Northern Irish border, Sligo can be reached via the N16, N15, or N4. The test venue is located in Sligo’s town centre, and therefore there are numerous parking facilities available. We’ve selected two local options below. However, if you’d like to review any other local parking sites, please visit the relevant Parkopedia page, located here.
Stephen Street Car Park
This car park is open all day, every day, but only charges customers between the hours of 8.30 am-6.30 pm, Monday to Saturday. Therefore, parking outside of these times will not incur any fees. Please be aware that this site operates a maximum stay policy of two hours. However, given its proximity to the test centre, this should allow ample time to walk to and from the venue, and of course, complete your theory test.
Parking is charged at €1.20 per hour. This can be paid for by cash, or by using the Parking Tag payment service. To pay via the Parking Tag channel, please either call 01-244-9999 or text 53311 quoting the location ID (SGST). Disabled spaces are available at this facility.
The onwards journey to the test centre is a short, two-minute walk. Head southbound towards the Garvoge River, before turning left and advancing towards the bridge. From here, turn left again and advance up Bridge Street, where you’ll find the venue positioned around 50m up on your right-hand side.
The Mall Car Park
The site has identical chargeable parking and access hours to Stephen Street Car Park. However, parking is slightly cheaper, costing €0.90 per hour. A maximum stay limit of two hours is also imposed; however, the facility is also extremely close to the test venue.
All methods of payment are accepted at this car park, and the Parking Tag service line is similarly in operation. To use, please call or text the same respective numbers, but this time quoting location ID, SGTM.
Please note that disabled spaces are also available at this site.
The distance to the test site from here is a mere 100m. Please head west on ‘The Mall’ for 50m, before turning left onto Bridge Street. The venue is located approximately 50m away, just up on your left-hand side.
There are two main external bus routes that travel into the heart of the town centre, numbers 458 & 64.
If taking a service within Sligo’s localized public transport network, please aim to arrive at Markiewicz Road or Connolly Pub bus stops. These are located adjacent to each other and are positioned a four-minute walk away from the test centre. To reach the venue from here, head to the south end of Markiewicz Road, and turn left onto Stephen Street. Advance 100m, before turning right on Bridge Street. Again, the theory test site will be around 50m up to your left.
However, if arriving from outside of Sligo, please look to take advantage of either of the aforementioned services. If this is the case, please see guidance below.
- 458: Heading east/west between Ballina and Sligo, the 458 should be exited at Sligo Bus and Coach Station. This site backs onto the local Garda station. The test centre is roughly a four-minute walkway, heading northbound up Teeling Street, which merges into Thomas Street and then finally Bridge Street when arriving at the bridge straight in front. Cross the bridge, and progress for a further 50m. The venue will be on your right-hand side.
- 64: This service operates north/south between Galway and Sligo. Again, please alight at the bus and coach station.
Sligo MacDiarmada Train Station offers a limited number of services, so please check whether the station facilitates travel from your destination.
The station is just under 1km from the test centre, so please consider whether taking a local bus would be preferable to walking.
If you do opt to go by foot, please leave the station, and turn left onto Lord Edward Street. Continue eastbound, heading onto Wine Street, before advancing over the bridge at the end of this road. The bridge will connect you with Stephen Street, converging with the route taken from Markiewicz and Connolly bus stops. Therefore, from here, please follow the guidance outlined under the local bus service notes.
If looking to use public transport, this time turn right at Lord Edward Street, progressing for two minutes towards Knappagh Road bus stop. This will be located on your right-hand side. Take the S2 Rosses Upper service to Markiewicz Road, which will be approximately a four-minute journey. Again, please then adhere to the travel instructions shown earlier.
