Car
Letterkenny is accessible via the N56 & N14. Advertised parking information is limited, but we have identified two car parks that are of potential use.
McGinley’s Car Park
Parking here is charged at €1 per every two hours. To access the test centre, head northbound up Justice Walsh Road, turning left when you reach Upper Main Street. The venue is approximately a 150m walk from here, and positioned on the right-hand side of the road, opposite O’Hehirs coffee shop.
Port Road Car Park
This car park is open 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and is priced inexpensively. The hourly parking rate is €0.50, however, full-day tickets can be purchased at a discounted cost of €1.50. Given the duration of the test and the journey between venue and car park, we would encourage you to opt for full-day parking.
The onwards walk to the test centre is approximately five minutes. Port Road connects directly to Upper Main Street, so please head in a south-westerly direction for around 400m. The testing venue will be on your right-hand side.
Bus
Letterkenny is serviced by a number of external bus routes. If travelling into the town centre from outside Letterkenny, please see potential bus travel options below:
32: This route heads north-westwards from Dublin to Letterkenny. If using this service, please exit the bus at Letterkenny Bus Station. From here, head over the roundabout onto Port Road, and continue towards Upper Main Street.
64: This service operates between Donegal and Letterkenny. Again, please alight at Letterkenny Bus Station
932: The Dublin to Crolly route stops at the Mr. Chippie Chip Shop in Letterkenny. The chip shop is located opposite to the Bus Station, so, for onwards direction to the test centre, please follow the guidance outlined above.
964: This is the Galway-Crolly route, heading northbound through Letterkenny. Please leave the bus at Ramelton Road, which is just beyond the bus station roundabout. Again, head down Port Street as per previous instruction.
More information about the services referenced above can be found via the Moovit platform. Please click this link to head to the site.
If planning to take advantage of a local bus route, please aim for one of the bus stops articulated above.
Train
Unfortunately, there is no train station in Letterkenny. The closes station is located in Derry, Northern Ireland, which is around twenty miles away from the town. We would therefore advise against travelling by train, however, if this is your only option, please be aware that your onwards journey to the test centre will take over an hour.
Travel guidance from Derry train station to Letterkenny:
Head to the station bus stop, and take the 2d Bus Centre service to Foyle Street bus centre. From here, head southwards down the Foyle Embankment, turning right on Water Street. At the junction, turn right onto Foyle Street, and head to Derry Bus Station. Take the 480 Donegal service, which will drop you off at Letterkenny Bus Station after an approximate 35-minute journey. To reach the test centre, please re-visit the instructions referenced under earlier.
Derry train station facilitates arrivals from all over Ireland. Please head to the Translink website for train times and further travel information.
