Kilkenny Theory Test Centre

Kilkenny Theory Test Centre Address

The location of the test centre for driver theory test candidates is:

Unit 6 Johns Gate,
Castlecomer Road,
R95 PN88

Directions

Car

The city of Kilkenny is serviced by the N77, N66 and N10. The test venue is nearby the city centre, and therefore there are ample parking options. We’ve selected what we feel are the best two car parks for test centre accessibility.

MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre Car Park

This car park is open between the following times:

  • Monday-Wednesday and Saturday: 8.00 am-8.00 pm
  • Thursday & Friday: 8.00 am-10.00 pm
  • Sunday: 10.00 am-8.00 pm

Please note that the shopping centre itself may be closed on exit or arrival to the car park. Please do not be alarmed, as the site remains operational throughout the hours mentioned above.

Parking for three hours is charged at €2.50, which should be sufficient enough time to journey to and from the venue, and also conduct your test. However, if more time is required, please be aware that parking prices rise in €1.50 increments every hour. Any parking beyond six hours is converted into a 24-hour ticket, which is priced at €8. If you’re planning to be in Kilkenny for longer than a day, there are long-stay ticket options available.

Please note that you can pay by cash, card, or contactless payment at this site. The car park also accommodates disabled parking and has electric vehicle charging facilities. This is a considerably-sized, underground parking location, with over 1,000 spaces available.

To reach the test centre, please exit the car park and head west on Hebron Road. At the roundabout, turn right onto Castlecomer Road and continue northbound for around 100m. The venue will be on your left-hand side. This journey will only take around two minutes by foot.

Wolfe Tone Street

If you require a cheaper option, we would recommend parking at Wolfe Tone Street. Accessing the test centre from here will only add one minute to your onwards journey, and parking costs just €2 for the full day.

Charges are in operation between 8 am and 7 pm, between Monday and Saturday. Therefore, any parking hours incurred outside of this timeframe will be completely free. However, please note that this is a cash-only facility.

This car park has disabled parking available and is also equipped with four ‘age-friendly’ spaces. This provides a favourable parking location for those aged over 55.

The venue can be found by heading east on Gas House Lane, before turning left at the roundabout onto Castlecomer Road. Again, the test centre is around 100m up from here on the left-hand side. This route will take around three minutes to walk.

For further local parking information, please visit the relevant Parkopedia page, located here.

Bus

There are two main external bus routes that service Kilkenny, both of which accommodate stops within 1km of the test centre. These are the 600 and 717.

  • 600: This service travels between Dublin and Cork, and therefore heads in southwest/northeast directions. If using the 600, please alight at the MacDonagh Shopping Centre. The onwards walk to the testing venue mirrors the instructions given within the appropriate car park notes.
  • 717: This route heads from Dublin Airport to Clonmel. If using this service, please exit the bus at the Newpark Hotel. The test centre is a twelve-minute walk from here, heading in a southbound direction.

If taking an alternative or local route, please either head for one of the aforementioned bus stops, or Kilkenny Bus Station. The bus station is situated around a six-minute walk away from the venue. Please head west on Dublin Road, turning right onto Castlecomer Road. From here, walk northwards for around 300m, heading straight on at the roundabout. The test centre will be on your left-hand side.

Train

Kilkenny MacDonagh Train Station sits adjacent to the local bus station. Therefore, for onwards guidance to the theory test building, please follow the notes written immediately above. Kilkenny train station welcomes commuters from Dublin, Waterford, Limerick, and Clonmel, and facilitates onwards connections to Cork and Galway.
