Clifden Theory Test Centre

Clifden Theory Test Centre Address

The location of the test centre for driver theory test candidates is:

The Station House Hotel,
Co. Galway,
H71 AK52

Clifden is situated on the west coast of Ireland, roughly 80km away from Galway. The town is accessible via the N59, which cuts straight through the heart of Clifden. The test centre is located within the Station House Hotel, which is located just off the N59. Although parking options are limited, you should be able to secure a space at one of the sites mentioned below.

Clifden Public Car Park

This is a free to use car park, located just behind Clifden’s Tourism Office. Furthermore, this facility is just a 150m walk from the testing venue. To access the centre, exit the car park and turn right onto Galway Road (N59). Turn immediately right again onto the slip road, and follow this down to the road end. The hotel will be situated straight ahead.

St. Joseph’s Car Park

Located next to St. Joseph Church, this car park charges users €1 for up to two hours of parking. Given its relative proximity to the test centre, this should be ample time to walk to the venue, conduct your test, and return to your vehicle. Should you need additional time, please note that this site charges €0.50 for each extra hour required. When heading to the hotel, please leave the Church grounds by turning left onto Westport Road. Continue southbound, following the route as it curves to your left and merges with Galway Road. Advance approximately 100m, and then turn right onto the aforementioned slip road. Again, the hotel is located at the end of this road.

Please be aware that there is a small number of parking spaces in the town centre, but there is certainly no guarantee of acquiring these given their high demand.

There are three main transit lines that head through Clifden, the 423, 923 and 419. On each service, please exit the bus outside Clifden Library on Market Street. This is the only operational bus stop in the town.

  • 423: This is the Westport to Clifden service, heading from northeast to southwest. Please note that Clifden Library is the last stop on this route.
  • 923: This bus operates between Cleggan Olivers and Galway, travelling in south-east/north-west direction(s).
  • 419: The number 419 originates at Galway Bus Station, and terminates at the library on Market Street. It heads in a north-westerly direction towards Clifden town.

For onwards directions to the test centre, please consult the following notes below:

After exiting the bus, head east on Market Street, going straight ahead at the Bridge Street crossroads. Continue on Hulk Street, which will merge into Low Road after roughly 50m. Once arriving on Low Road, take the second exit on your left, which will take you onto a slip road towards the hotel. Advance past the Station House Theatre, following the road until the Station House Hotel appears on your right-hand side. This journey will take less than five minutes to navigate.

If you would like to check whether these routes head through your local area, please visit Clifden’s ‘Moovit’ dashboard page, located here. For detail on the 419 service, please hit the link.

Unfortunately, there is no longer an operational train station in Clifden. The nearest stations are all over 60km away, although two do have reasonable connecting services to the town. Although we would recommend using alternative forms of transport, if keen on using the train, please head to either Galway (Ceannt) or Westport stations.

Travelling from Westport should be slightly quicker, with the onwards journey to test centre taking approximately an hour and a half to conduct. The route is also incredibly straightforward. Use the bus stop located outside Westport Train Station to catch the aforementioned number 423 service to Market Street, Clifden. From here, please follow the earlier advice given.

Westport station address:

Alatamount Street,
Co. Mayo,
F28 XY18

Galway’s train station is roughly 80km away from Clifden town centre. This site is located adjacently to the local bus station, which again makes onward travel relatively easy. Simply head east on Station Road for 50m to gain access to the bus station entrance. Please use the 419 Clifden route, again leaving the bus as it terminates at Clifden Library. This journey will take around 1 hour 40 minutes to complete.

Galway (Ceannt) station address:

Station Road,
H91 T9CE

Please note that Gabhal Mhaigh Nulla station, although being a similar distance away to Clifden as Galway, is not a viable option. Connecting travel to Clifden would take in excess of three hours.

For further information on any of the aforementioned train stations, please head to the Irish Rail website. Here, you’ll be able to find arrival and departure times, staffed hours, and available station facilities. Click here to visit the landing page.
