Carrick-on-Shannon is serviced by one main roadway, the N4. The test venue itself is located in the town’s Mercantile Plaza, which has become Carrick-on-Shannon’s commercial hub. However, parking is extremely limited throughout the town. The only real option is to park at the local train station, which is approximately 1.5km from the plaza, and we would therefore encourage you to consider using public transport instead.
If keen to use the train station car park, please be aware that there are no appropriate connecting bus services to the test centre. Therefore, you’ll either need to navigate the journey on foot or through using a local cab company. We’ve listed several taxi firms below.
- Carrick Taxis: Townspark, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim (Contact number: +353 86 823 2424)
- Leitrim Taxis and Transport Service: Townspark, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim (Contact number: +353 83 856 9506)
- Gerry Short Taxi: Cloongowna, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Roscommon (Contact number: +353 86 151 0607)
However, if you’re comfortable walking, please refer to the following guidance:
Exit the station, and head south-east bound on the R370 for around 100m, before turning left onto the R368. Continue north-east, merging with the N4 after roughly half a kilometre. The N4 will take you over the Shannon River bridge (which incidentally acts as the county border line between Roscommon and Leitrim), and onto the roundabout servicing the Mercantile Plaza. Turn right here, and follow the perimeter of the complex round until you arrive at its entrance, which is at the north end of the site.
There is one main national transit line that heads through Carrick-on-Shannon, and there is a local bus network in operation. The number 22 operates a cross-country service between Dublin and Sligo. This route directly passes the plaza, so therefore please exit the bus at the stop just outside the site.
If taking a local service, please either head for the aforementioned bus stop, or for one of the drop-off points close by. There are two further stops in close proximity, both located outside coffee shops within a minute’s walk of the plaza.
For further information on the 22 services, or indeed local bus routes, please visit the Carrick-on-Shannon Moovit dashboard.
Carrick-on-Shannon Train Station is located on the Dublin to Sligo line. Please follow the earlier instructions given to access the test centre from here.
